Is White Fire OG indica or sativa? Its genetics and family tree

White Fire OG is a hybrid: a cross of Fire OG, an indica-dominant OG Kush hybrid, and The White, a frost-covered clone-only cut said to come from Florida.1,2,3,4 Which way it leans depends on the source, from 60% indica (AllBud) to 60% sativa (OG Raskal’s SeedFinder entry); Leafly rates its effects mostly energizing.1,5,6

The two parents

Fire OG is an indica-dominant hybrid that Leafly lists as OG Kush × SFV OG Kush and calls one of the strongest OG strains; the name comes from frosty red hairs that make the buds look as if they are on fire.2,12 Versions differ: Weedmaps says The Cali Connection built the reference version as a 50/50 cross of Raskal’s OG Kush and SFV OG Kush, and High Times wrote in 2014 that few clone-only strains inspire the reverence given to “the Fire OG cut made famous in online forums by OG Raskal.”13,14,15

The White is named for its trichomes, so thick that Leafly says the buds look rolled in confectioner’s sugar; Leafly adds that it was originally called “Triangle”, supposedly comes from Florida, and looks like an OG while having little of the smell.3 Krome, the breeder quoted on SeedFinder’s clone-only entry, says the Triangle name came from its being a three-way cross and that, as far as the breeder knows, The White has no relation to White Widow; Weedmaps says it may first have gone by Triangle or Triangle Kush and is now maintained by Connoisseur Genetics, which sells it as feminized seed.4,16,17

How the cross was made

With reversed pollen. OG Raskal’s description on SeedFinder says the breeder took the Fire OG clone it had “brought to the community” and hit it with “reversed White clone only male pollen”, which makes The White the pollen parent; the seed is sold feminized only.6 SeedFinder lists OG Raskal Genetics as a California breeder whose crosses are built on The White and Fire Alien Kush, with White Fire Alien, White Urkle and White Skywalker OG in the same catalog.18

WiFi 43, the best-known cut

WiFi 43, also sold as White Fire 43, is a single phenotype. Leafly says number 43 was the standout in a lot of more than 500 White Fire OG seeds grown by TLC Collective in Los Angeles; Weedmaps adds the name White 43 and quotes TLC Collective calling it extraordinarily resistant to pests and mildew.7,20 Leafly files the cut as an indica with sleepy, relaxed and hungry as its top effects, against focused, uplifted and happy for White Fire OG.1,7

Our strict name matching reads a bare number as a lot code, so 49 of the 283 lab tests on this site are WiFi 43 or White Fire 43 labels.27

What our lab data adds

The aliases we match include the bare “White Fire” and “WiFi”. Of the 283 tests counted, 153 carry “OG” in the label (10 of them spelled “O.G.”) and 130 are labelled only “WiFi” or “White Fire”, including 49 WiFi 43 or White Fire 43 lots.27

Our strict matching excluded 225 results across all product types (119 of them flower) sold under near-miss names, led by "Wifi Alien" (32) and "White Fire Alien OG" (26).27 Leafly lists White Fire Alien OG as a separate OG Raskal cross of The White and Fire Alien Kush: it shares The White with White Fire OG but is a different strain.28
